About this deal

Cable clearance is very tight but everything fits. The fully modular power supply is almost a must here. This mini-size NAS-compatible enclosure has a capacity of 22 liters and can hold up to twelve 2.5″ SAS, including four internal and 8 external hot-swappable 3.5″ SATA drives for ease of access. Aside from simple usage, I don’t think you can dispute how premium and feature-rich this high-quality, robust, and attractive case is. Due to the small upper compartment, and the good exhaust ventilation design, a single, quiet 60mm fan is sufficient to keep the CPU reasonably cool. If you don't mind fan noise, put a high-speed fan in there and you could keep a higher-wattage CPU fairly cool.

Most of what I do as a Mac Consultant is Synology Server support. But I’m totally terrified of this alerts on my own Synology Servers and my clients servers too. FTP/SFTP — (Secure/File Transfer Protocol) Common way of transferring files over a network using a utility like FileZillaOpenfiler — Supports CIFS, NFS, HTTP, iSCSI, FC, paid support, and management available. See screenshots. Mini ITX NAS cases can be suitable for home and small office use, as they are often compact and efficient. However, the suitability will depend on the specific needs and requirements of the user. How much does a typical mini ITX NAS case cost?

You didn’t mention QPhoto is not available on QuTS hero so tagging of photos can’t be done locally, but the tags can be analysed by QuMagie; the solution to this is tag on a QTS NAS and copy them over; I’ll be semi-automating this process soon on our system soon. Ultimately, the case has become important enough to me that I made a promise to myself when I turned the DIY NAS and EconoNAS builds into something I was repeating on a regular basis: each time I built a DIY NAS and I was envious of the case, I’d acquire that case and transplant my own NAS into it!It is worth remembering that although there are ALOT of different 8-Bay NAS drives available to buy, they are by no means created equal! With numerous super-budget brands popping up online, it can be tempting to consider these alongside the premium NAS brands. However, all too often they offer solutions righty seem ‘too good to be true’ and then are gone from the web before your warranty even gets cold! So, whether you are looking at the three best 8-Bay solutions that I am recommending below OR are looking at another 8-Bay NAS you saw on offer/recommended elsewhere – the best NAS system ALWAYS includes the following software and services: However what eventually moved me to build my 3rd gen NAS was running out of disk slots. The RAID acronym ‘Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks’ is ironic when you have to keep buying larger more expensive disks to replace perfectly good smaller ones in your limited slots! Some things were clear, I was going for 8x 3.5” bays. It would have a server grade mini-ITX motherboard and 32GB of ECC RAM, internal SSDs for boot and I would likely need a PCIE HBA to get the number of ports required. I also wanted to keep it as compact, quiet and low-power as possible, and this would influence PSU and fan choices. You can create your RAID array before or after you install the operating system, but I recommend before. You’ll need to enter the RAID BIOS during boot-up and create the array. During boot-up your RAID card will show the key combination to enter the BIOS (usually Ctrl + R, Ctrl + H etc). Motherboard Support: Various ITX motherboards in the market: 17X17cm (6.7“*6.7“); Micro-ATX motherboards 24X24cm (9.6“*9.6“)

Now I realize they’re not huge capacities, but even four 4TB SAS drives in a RAID-5 array will give you 12TB of useable storage. If you need more, double that and you get 24TB of storage, your still way ahead of others buying SATA drives. Case comes with front end mounting plates for a flex PSU and a 1u server PSU also rear end plate for flex PSU plus a bag of screws for hard drive mounting to caddies. You mention the h874 is noisy. Ironwolf Pro 14TB drives are very very noisy, I’m using 8 x 7.68TB U2 NVMe drives in mine, and it is very very quiet. I agree QNAP were penny-pinching with only providing 2.5Gb NICs, I’m using a dual 10Gb card with PiHole and that gives me 20Gb bandwidth and editing 4k video on the fly is instantaneous. To all other reviewers credit, you will find sharp edges in this case working with it. But overall, it's no different than many of the other cases I've worked with. You will need a 40mm cooling fan for the 9260-8i card as they run a little hot, great card though and it’s what I use) The only thing of note is that the supposedly ‘matched’ constant speed silent fans are running at different speeds (1000rpm and 1100rpm). The fan is supposed to run at 1050 RPM so I assume a that a tiny variation in speed, probably due to static pressure, is causing one to round up and one to round down. This case is decent quality and I'm happy with the end result, however, it is a royal pain to build in. It comes with the territory to build in a small case, but this case is nearly impossible to snake cable through, and it is razor sharp (I literally sliced off a small portion of the tip of my thumb by accident). You'll need to be especially careful that you don't cut cables when finagling them due to the overly sharp edges. Now some useful information that I wished I'd had as it would have saved me time and money:

5+ Drive Bay Desktop Network Attached Storage Systems

Dual Gigabit LAN which gives your network redundancy if one LAN chip fails, or you can bond for faster throughput The challenge here is that these chips felt a bit like no-mans land. We know that the eight high-speed cores offer excellent performance, but it is not exactly inexpensive, it is not exactly low power. We do not get RDIMM support for higher capacities for a server that could use that much power with enough memory. Maybe it was the fact that we had just done over two dozen pieces on the series, but I just did not feel this was the right fit for me especially given the lower-cost pre-built solutions out there based on Xeon E-2200 series. HDD Slot: Network attached storage Enclosures support 8 x 3.5” HDD(compatible 2.5” SSD), You will have more storage capacity, Support hot swap Norco ITX-S8 ( specs): Mini-ITX case, 8 x 3.5” hot-swappable HDD bays, 1 x 2.5” internal drive bay, and uses a 1U ATX power supply.

SilverStone CS280 Overview

The SilverStone CS381 is a chassis we first saw from SilverStone at Computex 2018. It promises an 8-bay storage platform for mATX servers with large (quiet) fans and room for features such as GPUs. Silverstone CS381 MATX Front When it comes to NAS cases, the size of the motherboard they can accommodate plays a significant role in determining their differences. ITX and ATX NAS cases differ in this aspect, with ITX cases being smaller and accommodating smaller motherboards compared to their ATX counterparts. This means that ATX motherboards have more PCIe lanes, making them better suited for multi-GPU setups or users who want to use multiple PCIe devices. So if you need a space-saving build, you can see our slim ATX cases for inspiration. How many hard drives can fit inside a mini ITX NAS case? If we could not get an mATX Atom C3000 solution, the next thought was going big. Specifically, getting an Intel Xeon Scalable solution. We have dozens of Xeon Scalable CPUs to use, so this seemed like an easy option. Supermicro X11SPM TPF Overview
